Nominations for the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health Awards are open - deadline extended

The nomination deadline for the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health Awards has been extended to Monday 20 June, 5pm AEST, to provide more time for people to finalise their nominations.

Now in its second year, the awards once again seek to recognise and celebrate the achievements of 25 women in Australia’s digital health sector for achievements in health and aged care.

  • Recognising and celebrating the achievements of 25 women in health and aged care 
  • Connecting, sharing, inspiring and celebrating 
  • Nominate yourself or someone you know by completing the online nomination form.

The final 25 women will be selected by the judges based on the following broad criteria which recognises: 

  • technical expertise or contribution, with significant impact, in the health sector, aged care sector, or health and medical research sector 
  • emerging leaders influencing or being accountable for digital transformation. 
  • making a positive impact supporting other women in the sector through mentorship or upskilling
  • nominee has demonstrated innovation in developing unique solution/s to address problems or opportunities
  • impact and influence in the digital industry - we want to hear about the work you do within your organisation and in the broader digital community 
  • success in establishing and / or championing a digital vision or innovation.

Nominations are open to women at all stages of their careers, representing diverse areas of the health and/or aged care sectors. 

Eminent judges from across the health and aged care sectors will select the 25 award recipients, which will be recognised at events in capital cities in October.

Nominations are encouraged from individuals self-nominating, or we encourage people to nominate others who they feel are worthy of recognition. Please refer to the detailed terms and conditions at the bottom of this page for eligibility requirements. 

Nominations must be completed via the Award Force online platform. By clicking on the above link to nominate, you will be prompted to create an account, verify your email and then have access to the form. Once you’ve selected whether you are self-nominating or nominating another person, you will then simply need to complete the questions and then submit.

The nominations will be open from 2 May to 20 June 2022. After this, our judges will review all nominations. This will take place over a four-week period before selecting the final 25 award recipients by early September. We will contact the 25 award recipients to conduct interviews to create a report celebrating the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health award recipients. The report will be launched digitally, in October at events to celebrate award recipients. View the 2021 report.

The final 25 will be recognised for their achievements in digital health and asked to share their story to inspire others and raise awareness of the opportunities in digital health. As well as being involved in the various launch events and associated activities, the finalists will:

  • have the opportunity to participate in learning and development opportunities through the Australian Institute of Digital Health as well as other professional development opportunities

  • become a lifetime member of the Brilliant Connected Women in Digital Health network of people within digital health 

  • be provided with opportunities to participate as part of the network, in terms of events, publications, speaking occasions and overall profiling.  

Terms and Conditions  

We're delighted you want to participate in the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health Awards.  
  
This document is our 'terms and conditions'. If you want to participate in the recognition program, you'll need to adhere to a few things that we've outlined for you below.  
  
As with any fair competition, if you don't comply with these terms, we have the right to disqualify you or declare your entry ineligible so it's important to take note of these terms. 

Here’s the nitty-gritty 

The 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health are conducted by Telstra Health Pty Ltd, ABN 38 163 077 236 of Level 3, 222 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne Vic 3000– referred to in these terms as “Telstra Health”, “we”, “us” and “our”.  
  
One last thing – any reference to "you" or "your" includes you in your personal capacity. 

Who can enter? 

In order to enter the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health, you need to: 

  • Live in Australia and be an Australian citizen or resident; 

  • Be working or studying in the field of Digital Health, either within technology, healthcare, or a combination of the two 

You also won’t be able to enter if we have a financial interest in your business. Lastly, we encourage all people who identify as women to apply, regardless of your gender at birth. 

How do you enter? 

Instructions on how to enter, the report and the process for judging is set out at bcw.awardsforce.com. These sections also form part of the terms. 

Entries must be submitted by 20 June 2022. You must complete the form and anything you include in your entry form must be true and correct. 

To enter, you need to: 

  • Comply with these Terms 

  • Submit a complete entry at bcw.awardsforce.com by the nomination deadline

  • Be willing to be featured in the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health report when it is published, and to attend the launch event if possible (this can be virtually or in person if you are based in Sydney, Melbourne or TBD Perth.

Now for the hard stuff. We can make your entry ineligible or disqualify you if we think you or your business is involved in any activity that is illegal, fraudulent, can cause harm to us and our reputation, or if you provide any false or misleading information. If this happens, we can withdraw your name and details if you are selected as one of the 25 women who will be profiled as part of the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health report and any associated communications. We may also ask that you no longer promote yourself and/or your business as being associated with 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health. This clause survives the expiration of the Period. 

That’s a mouthful we know! But make sure you read those conditions carefully as we take the integrity of our program seriously.  

Judging 

This is a game of skill only. There is no element of chance in determining the winners. The final 25 women will be selected by the judges based on the following broad criteria which recognises: 

  • technical expertise or contribution, with significant impact, in the health sector, aged care sector, or health and medical research sector 

  • emerging leaders influencing or being accountable for digital transformation. 

  • making a positive impact supporting other women in the sector through mentorship or upskilling

  • nominee has demonstrated innovation in developing unique solution/s to address problems or opportunities

  • impact and influence in the digital industry - we want to hear about the work you do within your organisation and in the broader digital community 

  • success in establishing and / or championing a digital vision or innovation.

The independent judges have been appointed to represent a cross section of individuals with knowledge and experience of Australia’s digital health sector. The judges volunteer their time and participate in a personal capacity.

Prize conditions

Please be aware that the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health Awards is purely a recognition initiative where we will profile the 25 women who our judges determine as most successfully meeting the entry criteria. Therefore, there will be no monetary prize received. 

Instead, the 25 women who are selected will be profiled in a report which we will publish to recognise them and to celebrate their achievements. All 25 women will also be invited to awards events in their closest Australian city - Melbourne, Sydney or (TBD) Perth on the evening of Thursday 13 October. 

The 25 winners will be flown to the closest award event by Telstra Health (if they do not already reside there) and will be provided with one night’s hotel accommodation (again, for those who do not already reside there). Any other reasonable travel expenses (as decided by us) will also be reimbursed if appropriate proof of purchase such as a tax invoice or receipt is provided. 

The events will comply with any COVID-19 restrictions in the city at the time. 

General need-to-know 

We do not provide feedback on entries. We may review publicly available information regarding you including on websites, social media and in media activity in assessing and judging your entry. 

If you are selected as one of the 25 women for our report, you may be invited to participate in promotional appearances during the period to promote the initiative. We may use your comments, image and name for advertising and publicity purposes in any media in perpetuity without compensation. 

If you are selected as one of the 25 women, we will endeavour to give you at least seven calendar days’ notice of the time, date and location of each Promotional Appearance you are required at, and the party requesting the appearance will pay your reasonable travel and accommodation expenses. 

In any promotion or endorsement of the Brilliant Women in Digital Health, you should only express opinions that are genuinely held by you. 

What do we do with your information? 

We collect basic personal information (as defined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)) in various ways, such as in the entry form, on judging days, and in speeches and interactions with the support team, in order to administer  the 2021 Brilliant Women in Digital Health. 

If you do not provide the personal information as requested, unfortunately you cannot participate in the program. All entries become our property. 

By participating in the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health (including by submitting an entry and by completing a related survey), you consent for us to use and disclose your personal information in for the purposes set out in our Privacy Statement available at  Privacy Policy (telstrahealth.com)

Your personal information can also be disclosed to our related entities, business partners, agencies, and other third parties engaged to provide services in connection with the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health, in order to: 

  • Market to you in any way (including by email, SMS/MMS, mail, social media and telephone (even if your phone number is registered on the Do Not Call Register), including contacting you after the Period ends about our Products & Services; 

  • Administer the program; 

  • Invite you to be part of our initiatives including case studies, polls/surveys and business opportunities; 

You agree that your consent continues with us unless otherwise withdrawn. If you wish to withdraw your consent to receive marketing material from us, call us on 1800 039 059. 

Award Force 

The 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health initiative uses the Award Force platform for nominations and judging. The Award Force application is GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) compliant.   

Award Force utilises Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure to host the system. The Award Force application and database servers are located in the European Union. For security reasons, Amazon does not publish the physical locations of their data centres. Media files will be stored in one of three global regions (in this instance, Asia Pacific) for smooth viewing/listening experience and performance. By entering the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health initiative you consent to us using the Award Force platform to store your data. 

How do we get the word out? 

We want the world to know about you and your work in digital health. So, by entering this initiative, you agree that during and after the Period, you will participate and co-operate as required with all reasonable marketing activities of you and your business, relating to the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health initiative, including but not limited to being interviewed, videoed, and photographed. 

We may use your comments, image, details about you and your company if relevant (including logo and details), the contents of your entry form and any other materials supplied by you, in connection with your entry to the initiative or the promotion of the initiative (together, the Materials) in any media in perpetuity without compensation. 

By entering the initiative, you grant to us on creation of the Materials a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, exclusive and irrevocable license to use the Materials for purposes we choose in our sole discretion and that we may license, authorise or otherwise transfer the rights in the Materials to others to do the same. We may duplicate, alter, adapt and utilise the Materials at any time. 

You’ll also need to unconditionally consent to all acts being done that would otherwise infringe any of your moral rights (as defined in Part IX of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth)) in the Materials and any present and future rights of a similar nature conferred by statute anywhere in the world whether occurring before or after this consent is given. You agree not to institute, maintain or support any claim or proceeding for infringement of your Moral Rights in the Materials. 

The small print 

You will at all times indemnify, keep indemnified, defend and hold harmless us and our respective officers, employees and agents (Indemnified Persons), from and against any loss (including reasonable legal costs and expenses). 

We will not hold any liability incurred by any of the Indemnified Persons arising from any claim, demand, suit, action or proceeding by any person against any of the Indemnified Persons where such loss or liability arose out of, in connection with or in respect of any breach of these Terms by you, and use of the Material and/or information supplied by you under these Terms. 

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss (including indirect and consequential loss) or damage or personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with the 2021 Brilliant Women in Digital Health initiative, including the supply of goods or services by any person to you, and where applicable to any persons accompanying you. 

The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 

We accept no responsibility for any tax liabilities that may arise from your participation in the initiative. 

We have the right to alter or cancel part or all of the 2022 Brilliant Women in Digital Health at any time without notice to you. 

By entering the initiative, you agree to submit to the laws of New South Wales and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that place and the courts of appeal from them.

Emeritus Professor Christine Bennett AO

Professor Bennett is one of Australia’s leading health policy experts, actively involved in medical professional issues, health reform, social policy, medical education and research. In addition to being on the Telstra Health Board, she is currently Convener of the Champions of Change Coalition Health Group advocating for gender equality in health, and is a non-executive director on the Board of Regis a national aged care provider.

She was previously Deputy Vice Chancellor Enterprise & Partnerships and Dean of Medicine for more than 10 years at the University of Notre Dame Australia. Professor Bennett is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a specialist paediatrician, with over 40 years of experience in clinical care, strategic planning and senior management and governance in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She is a passionate champion of the potential for digital health and smart use of data science to transform health care, empower people in their own health decisions, support prevention and precision medicine, improve access, reduce waste, and deliver better health outcomes, safety and patient experience.

Chair, Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and Co-Chair, COVAX initiative

Professor Jane Halton AO PSM

Professor Halton is a health expert, with a 33-year career in the public service, including as former Secretary of the Australian Department of Health and the Department of Finance. She is the Chair of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and Co-Chair of the COVAX initiative. Professor Halton was a member of Australian COVID-19 Coordination Commission advisory committee and is on the boards of ANZ, Crown, Australian Strategic Policy Institute and the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation. She has held numerous international positions including Chair of the WHO Board, President of the World Health Assembly and Chair of the OECD Health Committee.

As a leader of Australia’s peak body for digital health, Dr Schaper is a passionate advocate for the transformation of healthcare, enabled by technology. As CEO and Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health, she brings together world-class clinicians, researchers, innovators and organisations from across the biomedical, health and technology spectrum. Dr Schaper has a background as an occupational therapist, a PhD in technology acceptance among health professionals, is a graduate of Stanford’s Executive Leadership Program, a Certified Health Informatician, a Salzburg Global Seminar Fellow and a Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics.

Dr Steve Hambleton

Dr Hambleton is a General Practitioner in Brisbane and a former Queensland State President and Federal President of the Australian Medical Association.

Steve is Chief Clinical Advisor to the Australian Digital Health Agency, supporting the Senior Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer.  He also supports Clinical Reference Leads who also provide clinical input into the work of the Agency.  He chairs the Clinical Governance Committee that operates to ensure the Agency delivers programs and projects that are high quality and clinically safe.

Professor Ngiare Brown

Professor Brown is a proud Yuin nation woman from the NSW south coast. She is passionate about Aboriginal and Indigenous health, child safety and adolescent development, and building the evidence base that demonstrates connection across culture, resilience and wellbeing. Professor Brown is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and has held a variety of positions in education, mentoring, clinical practice, policy, research and advocacy, with extensive contributions to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health over the past two decades. She is currently Co-Chair of the National Mental Health Commission and the Founding Director of Ngaoara, a not-for-profit committed to child and adolescent wellbeing.
