ANU Tech Policy Design Centre moves to keep doors open

The Australian National University-based Tech Policy Design Centre is expected to continue its work in 2025 – albeit as an independent not-for-profit entity – after the university unexpectedly cut off support for the organisation.

The influential centre is run by Professor Johanna Weaver and employs around a dozen staff. It has led efforts on best practice tech policy since 2022, when it was established as a pilot program.

The centre had been given an expanded research agenda and a permanent home within the ANU’s College of Law just last February but support has been pulled amid the university’s financial struggles.
