Billions of dollars in tax credits for green hydrogen production and critical minerals processing will flow from 2027 after the centrepiece of the Albanese government’s Future Made in Australia plan passed the Senate.
The Future Made in Australia (Production Tax Credit and Other Measure Bill) cleared the upper house on Monday night with the support of the Greens and other crossbench senators, giving the government a pre-election boost to one of its signature policies.
The Greens sided with the government in return for amendments to exclude uranium from Australia’s critical minerals list, thereby preventing the use of the production credits for nuclear energy.
