Apple ‘unresponsive’ to govt’s age assurance trial

US tech giant Apple has been “unresponsive” to the Albanese government’s trial of age assurance technologies ahead of a ban on young Australians accessing social media later this year.

While phone manufacturing rival Google has participated in the trial, the iPhone maker has ignored several attempts to include its new controls, according to the organisation running the project.

Australia is a leading market for Apple, with more than half of smartphones sold locally every year being iPhones.
