Modelling ‘underestimates’ Australia’s quantum opportunity

Economic modelling that shows Australia could unlock $6 billion from quantum technology by 2045 is a “massive underestimate”, according to one of the country’s foremost experts in the field.

Andrew Dzurak, the co-founder and chief executive of Sydney-based quantum startup Diraq, said the projections, released by the CSIRO in late 2022, were an order of magnitude lower than the real opportunity.

“The CSIRO report from a couple of years back… projected some billions of dollars from quantum computing by 2045, he said during a Science & Research Breakfast Seminar at NSW Parliament on Thursday morning.
