Canberra urged to unify AI policy sprawl

The government’s fragmented artificial intelligence efforts like business adoption, regulation and productivity would be unified in a national AI strategy and overseen by Cabinet ministers under a proposal being put forward by technology policy experts.

The proposed taskforce would report to the Prime Minister and attempt to reconcile a growing pool of AI priorities and competing agendas to help safely diffuse the technology.

The Albanese government has already delivered national strategies for quantum and robotics, and has an industry focused National AI Capability Plan and regulatory guardrails on the way.
