Doctors want more input on the regulation of artificial intelligence to ensure ethical use in health care, as the Albanese government weights two models that have split the Labor caucus.

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) this week joined a growing debate on how Australia will regulate the frontier technology, warning its sector is seeing risks and opportunities play out already.

AI offers promise in everything from rostering doctors to detecting subtle defects in human tissue that the human eye cannot, and is already being used to streamline image classification.
