AI productivity dividend more hype than reality: report

Artificial intelligence is being sold as a cure for Australia’s sluggish productivity growth, but a new report from think tank Per Capita argues the case is built more on hope than hard evidence.

The report, which looked at a literature review of global economic think tanks, warns that claims of turbocharged efficiency are not only overstated but may in fact disguise longer-term risks to the economy.

It was released ahead of last week’s Economic Reform Roundtable, which saw AI elevated to a national priority after it was touted as a central productivity lever by government and industry representatives.
