Shadow industry and innovation minister Alex Hawke says the government must intervene to address AI challenges, including putting guardrails around high-risk use, to avoid a “regulatory wild west”.
But “endless consultations” and outsized union influence on the new rules are putting the benefits of AI further out of reach, Mr Hawke said in his first comments on the AI regulatory debate.
“Clearly AI requires a response from government,” he told a FinTech conference this week.
