Sydney’s innovation push has a people problem

Australia’s technology heartland is being “smashed” by the housing crisis, with thousands of young workers fleeing Sydney and the top imported workers heading home because of a cultural void.

The housing and cultural pressures are well known in a city home to Australia’s biggest tech firms, leading research hubs and most successful startup scene.

But they gained a new focus at the tech sector’s flagship event, held for the first time in Sydney last week as the state government unveiled its plans for a reinvigorated innovation hub.
