New copper extraction technology from a Macquarie University spinout could unlock vast amounts of arsenic-contaminated minerals and drop carbon emissions from its production by as much as 80 per cent, scientists say.
Loop Hydrometallurgy will on Friday unveil a pilot prototype electrowinning cell that extracts higher-purity critical minerals like copper, nickel, cobalt and zinc by passing electricity through saltwater – the company has patented the tech as the Halion Loop.
