Govt’s credential register has blocked 750,000 fraud attempts

The government register introduced following one of Australia’s worst data breaches has now blocked more than 750,000 fraudulent identity verification requests and will be strengthened later this year with myGov integration.

The Credential Protection Register was set up in 2022 following the Optus data breach that compromised the personal information of nearly 10 million people, including passports, Medicare and driver’s licence data.
