The federal government has introduced “urgent” legislation to keep its upgrade of Australia’s business registers on track, with a legal hangover from the last rebuild threatening to derail the program.
In a move to reduce fraud and boost transparency, the government will also use the bill to link the unique 15-digit identifiers held by all company directors to the companies register for the first time.
