Greens deal clears path for CGT overhaul


Controversial changes to the capital gains tax discount are set to pass parliament as soon as Thursday after the Albanese government struck a deal with the Greens in exchange for amendments.

A ministerial power allowing the Treasurer to extend the 50 per cent CGT discount to additional asset classes will be cut from the bill containing the first tranche of tax reforms, forcing any future changes through parliament.
