NSW puts data centres to work on energy transition

Major data centres will be approved in under three months in NSW if proponents can satisfy new rules designed to accelerate the state’s energy transition while stemming community backlash to the facilities.

The rules include strict energy and environmental efficiency standards like using recycled water and maximum noise levels, and that new power purchasing agreements for renewable energy cover facilities’ energy demands.
