R&D ‘deathtrap’ could shut startups out of refunds


Australia risks decimating startup investment if the government pushes ahead with proposed changes to the R&D tax incentive that could leave young companies unable to claim refunds from the get-go.

That’s the warning from tech lobby groups and tax advisers, who have called out the planned 10-year limit on the refundable offset and say it will have an outsized impact on early-stage companies.
