Apple wins Aussie patent dispute over Face ID

Apple has won a lengthy patent dispute over biometric security with an Australian technology investment company, with the Federal Court this week ruling in favour of the US tech giant.

The decision, which is expected to be appealed by the Queensland-based firm, is the latest chapter in a long-running legal battle between the two companies, both in Australia and the United States.

Charter Pacific Corporation (CPC), a company specialising in biometrics patents, filed a suit against the iPhone maker in September 2021, alleging the Face ID and Touch ID systems used on Apple devices infringe two of its patents.
