ASCA issues undersea navigation challenge to deep techs

The Defence department is seeking industry proposals for an Australian-built undersea navigation system to guide autonomous underwater vehicles through deep ocean waters without GPS assistance.

The Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) put the call out to local defence tech firms earlier this month, offering close to $4 million across two technology development contracts through its latest innovation challenge.

It came just days after Anduril secured a $1.7 billion contract to build a new fleet of extra-large autonomous undersea vehicles, known as Ghost Sharks, for the Royal Australian Navy.
