A prototype high energy laser system being developed for the Australian Defence Force has been successfully demonstrated for the first time in Adelaide by multinational defence technology company QinetiQ.
The company announced the milestone on the joint project with Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) this week, bringing Australia closer to sovereign directed energy defensive systems.
Gary Steward, the chief executive of QinetiQ’s Australian sector, said the company would now look to “accelerate the development of sovereign high energy laser technology so it can be offered to the Australian Defence Force”.
