‘Design isn’t neutral’: Digital tricks targeted by Parliament


Companies that make it difficult to cancel subscriptions face fines of up to $50 million under new laws that take aim at the digital tricks and traps costing Australians nearly $1 billion each year.

The reforms targeting so-called “dark patterns” will also strengthen protections against drip pricing, requiring businesses to disclose all transaction fees upfront rather than revealing hidden charges at the checkout.
