Digital ID to replace JPs in govt stat dec overhaul

Australians will be able to use a digital identity to witness documents online before the end of the year, removing the need for time-consuming visits to a Justice of the Peace (JP), with the federal government now consulting on the proposed reforms.

It represents a major step towards declarations and deeds being executed digitally, a vision the Albanese Government – and the Morrison Government before it – has been consulting on since the pandemic made e-signatures the norm.
