Internet Australia has raised alarm about the proposed expansion of controversial police hacking powers under the guise of “technical” changes that it says amounts to “function creep”.
In submission to the parliamentary inquiry into the proposed changes to the Identify and Disrupt Act, the group slammed the government for using the pretence to expand the bill without public consultation.
“We reject the framing of the… Bill as being primarily technical or administrative corrections in nature,” Internet Australia, the local chapter of the global Internet Society, said.
