The federal government has dropped an additional $400 million on its ‘Ghost Bat’ collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) to secure three working prototypes of a next-generation ‘Block Two’ version of the high-tech combat drone in the next couple of years.

But it is what happens next in relation to building volume production capacity that has the potential to deliver maximum value to Australia’s defence industrial base.

The Ghost Bat has been developed in cooperation with Boeing Defence Australia, which will use the development of the Block Two version of the aircraft to refine its commercial production processes and hone the integration of local suppliers into its production.
