Communications minister Anika Wells on Tuesday signalled online safety laws will be changed to restrict access to apps that ‘nudify’ or enable undetectable stalking. Platforms will be forced to restrict the access in a model based on the social media ban for under-16s.
The changes were recommended in a review of the current online safety laws presented to government almost a year ago.
The apps have long been a problem for the online safety regulator, which struggled to rein in access to the nudification and stalking apps with its current powers.
