Energy minister Chris Bowen is sitting on recommendations for a huge public investment in green hydrogen production from a $4 billion program that is running months late.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) chief executive Darren Miller on Monday confirmed a recommendation had been provided to government for “at least one” project from a shortlist of six for the initial $2 billion round of Hydrogen Headstart.

Announced in the 2023-24 Budget, the program selected to six potential projects later that year and had been expected to announce recipients by the end of 2024.
