Australian businesses conducting trade overseas will now be able to communicate with the government legacy systems using APIs, as the effort to streamline regulatory systems gets off the ground.
As part of the whole-of-government Simplified Trade Systems reforms, which aim to cut red tape and make the importing and exporting process more efficient, organisations will now be able to send and receive information with Home Affairs using APIs.
A new regulatory determination made in late June allows APIs – Application Programming Interfaces – to be used as an alternative method of communicating with the Department of Home Affairs for the first time.
