Voices from across industry say the new Industry minister Tim Ayres and assistant minister Andrew Charlton are a formidable combination of different experience and expertise, welcoming the “dynamic duo” and the portfolios new focus on innovation and the digital economy.
Senator Tim Ayres was sworn in as the new Minister for Industry, Innovation and Minister for Science on Tuesday, with Andrew Charlton appointed as Assistant Minister for Science and the Digital Economy.
Industry groups welcomed the creation of a specific “Digital Economy” portfolio – something that had been missing in Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s first ministry – and similarly welcomed the return of ‘Innovation’ to the portfolio, a subtle but important distinction.
