Innovation visa off to slow start as tech dominates first year


Australia filled only a fraction of places available under its flagship innovation visa scheme in its first year, with tech workers accounting for the overwhelming majority of invitations.

Official figures from the Department of Home Affairs show just 530 invitations were issued for the National Innovation Visa (NIV) last year, despite receiving more than 10,000 expressions of interest.
