NSW govt backs Sydney Science Park plan amid housing crisis

The NSW government has reaffirmed its commitment to Sydney Science Park and the “well-paid, knowledge-based jobs” it will create, insisting there are no plans to lift the dwelling cap to allow for more residential housing to be built at the proposed site.

The $5 billion project, part of the wider Aerotropolis development, has been on the cards for almost 15 years, having been pitched by developer Celestino in 2011 as a way to cluster science-based businesses and research institutions in Western Sydney.

It promised as many as 12,200 knowledge-based jobs at the science and innovation hub in the semi-rural suburb of Luddenham, as well as 340,000 square meters of research and development floor space.
