NSW govt puts Digital Restart Fund under review

The New South Wales government has put the legislation behind its Digital Restart Fund under review, after all but exhausting the $2.1 billion in funding set aside for digital works during the pandemic.

The statutory review will consider the ongoing “need for a centralised, legislated fund”, which has fundamentally changed how digital and ICT investments are planned, implemented and managed in the state over the last five years.

Established with an initial down payment of $100 million in 2019 and topped up with a further $1.5 billion over the following two years, the Digital Restart Fund (DRF) was created to break down rigid funding cycles and accelerate digital projects.
