Australia’s online safety regulator has issued a formal warning to a UK-based company it says is responsible for AI-enabled services being used to create deepfake pornography of Australian school children.

The initial enforcement action against the unnamed company paves the way for potential civil penalties of as much as $50 million if non-compliance continues.

It also comes just days after the Albanese government will try and block access to nudify apps.
