The federal government is being urged to pass “long overdue” privacy reforms that were left off the table last year, following a significant cyber-attack that exposed the details of up to six million Qantas customers.
John Pane, the chair of Electronic Frontiers Australia, made the appeal on Wednesday, just hours after the national carrier confirmed that a third-party system used by one of its contact centres was breached.
The cyber incident occurred on Monday, when a “cyber criminal targeted a call centre and gained access to a third-party customer servicing platform”, Qantas said on Wednesday morning.
