Net Zero Economy Authority chief David Shankey has appointed Professor Roy Green to lead the review of its Energy Industry Jobs Plan (EIJP) to meet the 12-month deadline under the Net Zero Economy Authority Act 2024.
In his new role, Professor Green will be tasked to assess the effectiveness of the EIJP, which has been set up to prepare employees for transition to new employment after the closure of coal-fired and gas-fired power stations.
Mr Shankey released the terms of reference for the review on Thursday, which include whether the EIJP is meeting government objectives to support workers during the energy transition, while considering the circumstances of businesses impacted by power station closures.

Mr Shankey says the review into the EIJP under Professor Green’s leadership will “strengthen our approach to future power station closures and will ensure workers are provided with the supports they need.”
Professor Green, who is Special Innovation Advisor at the University of Technology Sydney, said stakeholder consultation will be a critical focus of the review and will consider whether the legislation is “performing as planned.”
“I look forward to assessing this important legislation aimed at assisting workers in the areas of Australia most impacted by the transition and identifying opportunities in the industries and technologies of the future,’ said Professor Green.
The EIJP Review will invite comments from stakeholders and the public at an unspecified date “to be announced shortly” according to the Authority.
Professor Green will provide his report to Mr Shankey and Minister for Industry and Science Tim Ayres by the end of 2025.
