Second Firmus AI data centre approved despite backlash


Data centre developer Firmus’ proposal for a second 288-megawatt AI factory in northern Tasmania has been approved despite community backlash over its environmental impact.

George Town Council voted in favour of the AI factory at a meeting on Tuesday, less than a day before state and territory leaders were due to meet to discuss national AI standards for data centres.
