South Australian defence and space companies will gain access to a new London landing pad through a state government initiative designed to help grow businesses in the United Kingdom.

The partnership with the Office of the Agent General will provide office and boardroom space for local firms doing business in the UK, including as part of the AUKUS security pact.

It is expected to help South Australian companies access the UK supply chain, unlocking defence and space opportunities. At least five South Australian defence and space companies have a presence in the UK.

The landing pad will be supported by Defence SA’s Defence Industry Director – UK, Anthony Heath, who will provide on-the-ground advice and assistance. Mr Heath was appointed to the role 12 months ago.

Treasurer and Minister for Defence and Space Industries Stephen Mullighan said the new base was part of South Australia’s broader strategy to connect local industry with international opportunities.

“The AUKUS agreement is opening the door for increased opportunities with our UK partners,” Mr Mullighan said.

“The UK Defence and Space Landing Pad will alleviate the stress involved in securing office space in central London for SA companies looking to establish a base and secure business opportunities.”

Minister for Trade and Investment Joe Szakacs added that the move demonstrated South Australia’s commitment to backing local firms as they engage internationally, providing 25 dedicated staff across the global trade and investment network.

The Office of the Agent General is one of 17 overseas offices forming part of the Department of State Development’s global trade and investment network.
