Smart Energy Council chief executive John Grimes has urged the federal government to stop “pummelling around the edges” and move swiftly to deploy billions of dollars in green manufacturing support through the National Reconstruction Fund, warning that hesitation risks squandering Australia’s CleanTech development opportunity.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Wednesday, Mr Grimes said Australia has a “moment in time” to capitalise on its natural advantages, and to build momentum behind the $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund (NRF).
“There’s a billion in solar manufacturing in Australia and half a billion in battery manufacturing in Australia,” Mr Grimes said. “As a nation we are really poor. We need to commit to something, be informed, [aim to] hit the right target, but then we need to go for it.”
