Tech Council calls for ‘forward-leaning’ AI regulation

Australia’s peak technology industry body has used a new report to call on the Albanese government to declare its ambition for Australia to become a regional hub for global AI development and back it up with a “forward-leaning” regulatory approach.

Ahead of the productivity roundtable this week, the report provides more detail on a range of proposals made by Tech Council of Australia (TCA) chair Scott Farquhar at the Press Club late last month.

It offers up half a dozen recommendations to bring about both AI innovation and widespread AI adoption, both of which it says will be crucial if Australia is to have any chance of thriving in the “AI economy”.
