The Australian Technology Network (ATN) of Universities has appointed former chief defence scientist and University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky AO as its new chair.
Professor Zelinsky will take the reins from Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne, who has been chair since 2023.
He arrives as universities push for a more secure place in Australia’s research and development system and adapt to landmark reforms from the Accord process.

Professor Zelinsky praised work of outgoing chair Professor Hayne and expressed gratitude “for her guidance and leadership over the past two years.”
Emeritus Professor Kent Anderson has also stepped into a leadership role within the ATN as interim executive director, having held senior executive roles at four Australian universities along with his experience as senior advisor for higher education to two Commonwealth Ministers for Education.
Scott Turner joins local quantum scaleup Q-CTRL as head of engineering of quantum sensing to drive the development of these solutions that can be deployed in real-world applications.
Previously, Mr Turner was at ASX listed medical device company Bluechiip, where he played a key role in transformation of technology concepts into validated, manufacturable products.
He will be tasked with accelerating the maturity of Q-CTRL’s quantum sensing technologies from research prototypes to commercially viable products.
Angela Moody and Karen Hooper have been appointed as commissioners of Queensland’s newly reformed Productivity Commission.
Most recently, Ms Moody was the chief financial officer of the Gladstone Water Corporation and has been a director of Relationships Australia, Synergy Consulting, and Multicultural Australia. Ms Hooper, was head of the now-former Treasury office of productivity and red tape reduction.
Woolworths Group has appointed Angelo Clayton as its new chief digital and technology officer, following the departure of James Wilson at the start of the year.
Mr Clayton has been with the group for over seven-and-a-half years, most recently as its technology director for stores and information management.
