Award-winning data science and analytics leader, Dr Alex Antic has been appointed Faculty Head of AI Strategy at UNSW Canberra, and as a Deputy Director of the UNSW AI Institute.
Dr Antic has held the position of Adjust Professor at UNSW Canberra for the last 2 years, and has had a 20-year career spanning academia, federal and state government, as well as the commercial application of data science across insurance, banking and consulting.
Dr Antic thanked the UNSW executive team and colleagues Professor Emma Sparks, Professor Harvinder Sidhu and Dr Sue Keay in a LinkedIn post.
“I look forward to the chance to learn from and work alongside my brilliant UNSW colleagues to further strengthen our AI research and education capabilities, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to Australia’s strategic position in this critical field,” Dr Antic said.

Queensland Senator Larissa Waters has been elected as the fifth leader of the Australian Greens. Mr Abdoolakhan replaces inaugural Commissioner David Eaton PSM, who served in the role since its establishment in 2012, and will commence in the role on Monday, 19 May 2025.
