The Gig Guide: Experts join data standards committee

The federal government has appointed a new 18-member advisory committee of data standards experts to advise on Australia’s digital identity and Consumer Data Right schemes.

The Data Standards Advisory Committee  (DSAC) will provide strategic, expert and industry advice to Data Standards Chair for Digital ID and the Consumer Data Right (CDR) Ian Oppermann.

Mr Oppermann was appointed to the role in December last year, replacing inaugural chair and one-time IBM Australia and New Zealand managing director Andrew Stevens.

The new committee, announced late last week, includes a mix of tech policy experts, including the architect of the CDR, lawyer Scott Farrell, who is a strategic counsel at King & Wood Mallesons.

Other DSAC members include Lyria Bennett Moses, head of the School of Law, Society and Criminology at UNSW Sydney, ConnectID managing director Andrew Black and Tech Policy Design Institute executive director Johanna Weaver.

The iLAuNCH Trailblazer has appointed former Australian Signals Directorate director-general Rachel Noble as the new chair of the newly reinstated Advisory Board.

According to iLAuNCH Trailblazer executive director Darin Lovett, Ms Noble’s extensive experience and leadership will be instrumental as the program works to “advance Australia’s sovereign space capabilities”.

Ms Noble, who was the first woman to lead a statutory intelligence agency in Australia, has also held senior executive positions at the departments of Defence, Prime Minister and Cabinet and Home Affairs during her career.

As reported by InnovationAus.com this week, a new industry-led advisory council has been set up by the Queensland Manufacturing Advisory Council to strengthen the state’s manufacturing sector and lift supply chain resilience.

Among the appointees are Manufacturing Skills Queensland chief executive Rebecca Andrews, Ferra Engineering managing director Aaron Thompson and Mighty Good Food Group chief Emily Pullen.

After a six-year career as the Department of Defence’s chief IT architect, Rob Doughty has been named the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sports and the Arts’ new chief information officer.

He steps into the role on 21 July, replacing the recently departed Tony Castley, who left Infrastructure to join the Clean Energy Regulator in an unspecified position, as reported by iTnews.

Dale Naughton has been named the new CIO at the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. He was previously the CIO at the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Former Liberal Deputy Premier Dan van Holst Pellekaan has been appointed South Australia’s next Small Business Commissioner, commencing 11 August for a three-year term.

Mr van Holst Pellekaan served as a Liberal MP from 2010 to 2022 and has a long history working with small businesses including as a cabinet minister in the former Liberal government.

Sleeptite Australia has announced co-founder and chief operating officer Amanda van Dungen has become head of the business to grow its retail network. She will lead the wholesale division alongside national sales manager Jay Cook.
