Unions to seek workplace AI protections from Chalmers

Australia’s largest workers’ group has launched a push to tighten artificial intelligence regulations, including requiring employers to guarantee job security and retraining opportunities.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) on Tuesday demanded mandatory enforceable ‘AI Implementation Agreements’ to ensure a safe roll out of the technology and that workers get a share of its gains.

The new agreements would require worker consultation before any AI use in the workplace and be backstopped by an AI regulator and AI Act.
