Victoria’s state-backed venture capital fund hopes a new fellowship program designed to support the leap from academia to commercial success will create a startup “talent pipeline” well into the future.
The Australia-first program, which is now open for applications, is offering pre-seed funding of up to $150,000 to 50 university students, PhD candidates or recent graduates to commercialise their early-stage research.
Breakthrough Victoria’s Olga Hogan told InnovationAus.com that the program was created in recognition of both the early-stage VC gap that exists for ideas that emerge from university and to boost awareness of startup opportunities.
