The lack of a national Defence strategy is delaying the technology and advanced capability component of the AUKUS arrangement and a potential new pillar covering supply chains, according to shadow Defence minister Andrew Hastie.
On Tuesday, Mr Hastie urged the government to accelerate the upcoming National Defence Strategy, currently slated for release at some point in 2024, to give local industry direction and allow radical shifts in Defence innovation.
