Epic Systems tapped for Tasmania’s digital health record

The Tasmanian government has selected Epic Systems for its new statewide electronic medical record, becoming the third Australian jurisdiction to settle on the US-based software firm in five years.

The Department of Health revealed the company as its preferred prime contractor for the state’s proposed fully-integrated care platform on Tuesday, ending a two-year search for a provider.

Contract negotiations with Epic are now underway, with the build of a new electronic medical record (EMR) expected to begin in May 2026 and take at least two years to complete.
