New rules that will require telcos to block scam texts or warn recipients they come from unregistered senders by the end of the year have been rewritten to account for international entities and non-ABN holders.
The communications regulator released the revised draft standard on Monday, in response to concerns legitimate traffic from overseas would be blocked or overstamped as likely scams by the proposed SMS Sender ID Register.
As reported by InnovationAus.com last week, the initial consultation flagged a “significant potential barrier” to participation in the SMS Sender ID Register by overseas companies.
