The Productivity Commission is calling for a nationally coordinated rollout of artificial intelligence and other education technologies to school teachers to help ease workloads, personalise learning and improve student outcomes.

The plan for “equitable access” to edtech and AI tools, which would mark a break with the traditional state-led approach to technology in schools, is contained in the latest draft report from the Commission’s five-pillars productivity review.

It would see the federal government undertake a stocktake of what tools are being used, both within Australia and internationally, before assessing and recommending suitable tools to be made available to all teachers.
