ANU chancellor Julie Bishop acts with “god-like” power atop a university council that bullies staff to stifle dissent and curate a favourable public image, a staff member has alleged, adding to intense scrutiny of the university’s leadership.
Leading demographer and former elected council member Dr Liz Allen on Tuesday told a parliamentary hearing she was “bullied into near suicide” and suffered a miscarriage after being berated by Ms Bishop and undermined by Vice Chancellor Genevieve Bell in February.
Ms Bishop denies the allegations. The ANU said it takes them seriously but declined to comment amid an ongoing grievance procedure with Dr Allen.
