Tasmanian Senator Claire Chandler has returned to the shadow ministry with responsibilities for Cyber Security and Science as part of a frontbench reshuffle unveiled on Sunday.

Opposition leader Sussan Ley made a series of changes following Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s removal from the ministry in the wake the Northern Territory MP controversial comments about Indian-Australians.

Senator Chandler previously held shadow ministry positions under Peter Dutton before the election this year as shadow minister for the Digital Economy, shadow minister for Government Services, as well as shadow minister for Science and the Arts.

Ms Ley said Senator Chandler had “worked diligently in prosecuting Labor’s national security missteps” and that she has a deep passion for the subject matter in both of her new portfolios.

She was dropped from the shadow ministry following the election, but under the changes announced on Sunday takes over the shadow Cyber Security and Science role previously held by Western Australia MP Melissa Price.

NSW Liberal powerbroker Alex Hawk remains in his role as shadow minister for Industry and Innovation.

Melissa Price remains in the shadow minister but takes over the role of shadow minister for Defence Industry and shadow minister for Defence Personnel, previously held by Ms Nampijinpa Price.

Sussan Ley has created a new role of shadow minister for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Scrutiny of Government Waste, appointing Simon Kennedy from former Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s old seat of Cook.

NSW Liberal powerbroker Alex Hawke retains his position as shadow minister for the Industry and Innovation.

The Salesforce executive Gisele Kapterian, who narrowly lost in the contest for the seat of Bradfield, no longer appears in the shadow ministry list but will serve as a shadow assistant minister if her challenge of the result is successful, Ms Ley said.
