Too slow: Claire Chandler needles govt on AI plans

The federal government has dragged its heels on developing regulatory frameworks for AI and has not been transparent with the business community about its intentions, newly-appointed shadow minister for the Digital Economy senator Claire Chandler says.

The process had created uncertainty for industry, putting a handbrake on AI innovation in Australia, and is slowing the adoption of the AI-based productivity solutions, she said.

Senator Chandler was appointed to the shadow Cabinet in late January as a part of Opposition leader Peter Dutton’s mini frontbench reshuffle. She was tapped to fill the sweep of portfolios previously held by parliamentary veteran Paul Fletcher, who will leave politics at the next election.
