Data centres’ use of electricity in Australia will increase more than seven-fold by 2050, new forecasting released on Wednesday shows, as proponents seek to position the digital infrastructure as an investment driver.
The forecasts by the body that runs Australia’s biggest power market shows that by 2050 data centres will be almost as big of an electricity consumer as the entire hydrogen industry.
